Welcome to discussion organized by Siemenpuu Foundation and Finnish Degrowth Movement at the World Village Festival!
Economies oriented towards continuous growth will destroy our planet. How can we live a good life without continuous economic growth? Representatives of Finnish degrowth movement, ecofeminism in Kurdish freedom movement, and Indian environmental autonomy will discuss what Western societies can learn from the rest of the world.
Kurdish human rights and peace activist Gashaw Bibani and Indian Professor of Social Medicine and Community Health Ritu Priya will share their experiences of what provides a framework for good and ecologically sustainable life and a just transition. The discussion will be facilitated by Toni Ruuska, a sustainable economy researcher and active member of the Finnish Degrowth Movement.
The programme will be in English. The programme will be available on-site at the Speaker’s stage and through live stream on the Festival website.

GASHAW BIBANI
Gashaw Bibani, originally from Iraqi Kurdishtan, is human rights and peace activist and a school career coach. She is county counsellor at Vantaa-Kerava welfare region, vice-councellor in Vantaa city council and vice chairperson of Left Women’s Alliance.
RITU PRIYA
Ritu Priya is Professor of Social Medicine and Community Health at the Jawaharlar Nehru University in New Delhi, India. She has researched both traditional health autonomy and the health policies of welfare states. She is also active in ecological democracy and ecological autonomy (swaraj) movements in India.
TONI RUUSKA
Toni Ruuska, PhD Econ., researches and teaches sustainable economy at the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science. He has focused e.g. on skills of self-provisioning in rural communities. Ruuska is also active in the Finnish Degrowth Movement.
